Buzzworthy Bridal Trends: Off-the-Shoulder

by Ryan Conner

We are definitely seeing a resurgence of the off-the-shoulder trend, especially in the bridal world. We (well, some of us) wore the trend in the ’80s, but don’t worry, you won’t be donning the puffy-sleeve prom look on your big day. The designers took a fresh approach to the trend with dresses that span a wide range of aesthetic sensibilities.

Off-the-shoulder gowns from left to right: Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier, Reem Acra

The sexy-but-demur trend is a classic way to show a little skin while not being too revealing (we don’t want to make granny uncomfortable, right?). This trend is also great for you if you love the look of strapless, but it’s not the perfect fit for your body type.

Three designers showed dresses with gorgeous off-the-shoulder necklines (pictured above). Carolina Herrera’s classic gown features a sweetheart neckline with pretty sheer cap sleeves. The look is fit for a bride looking for a royal vibe. Pair it with a cathedral-length veil or sparkly headpiece to round out the look. Monique Lhuillier’s short frock combines tulle (another hot trend this season) with a lace bodice for a fun and flirty dress perfect for the dance floor or destination wedding. Go glam with Reem Acra’s red-carpet worthy gown complete with thigh-high slit (so Angelina, right?). You can shop these designers and dresses at the Carolina Herrera boutique, The Bridal Salon at Neiman Marcus, and Warren Barron.
