Melanie Harrell and Niklas Laabs’ love is a study in international diplomacy. They met in France at a model UN conference—she was from the U.S., representing Brazil; he from Germany, repping Costa Rica—where they bonded over the issue of climate change. They dated long distance until Niklas moved to the States and proposed. On September 6, 2014, they showcased their flair for coming together and making a deal in front of 100 people at the Hickory Street Annex.
