At the start of 2015, Killeen and John met, and (with a little help from cupid) the two were official by Valentine’s Day. There was a lot to celebrate, so their first V-day together was a special champagne night at the Dallas Museum of Art. The two planned dinners, movie dates, brunch meets–pretty much any excuse to keep seeing each other. There was even the “Coffee and Scrabble Sunday” tradition, heading to Dallas coffee shops for a morning pick-me-up and a light game of Scrabble. Killeen was the reigning board game champ, but John didn’t mind. By Easter Sunday their whirlwind romance had grown into love. They knew that somehow, they just fit.
One year and countless Scrabble Sundays later, they headed up to Las Vegas to visit John’s family. After exploring the city’s incredible cuisine and nightlife, John’s mother gifted them a trip to the Grand Canyon. With rough weather and two failed attempts to fly down to Arizona, John spontaneously grabbed Killeen, jumped in the car, and headed south. She didn’t understand the urgency of the trip, but she was game to see one of the wonders of the world. The two were able to beat the sunset and arrived with time to head for the breathtaking Skywalk lookout point. With the Grand Canyon views and the sunset in motion, John spotted a professional photographer to asked if he’d to snap a few shots of them. Camera ready, John got down on one knee and asked Killeen to marry him. It was a grand love at the Grand Canyon–what more could the two ask for!
Killeen graduated from University of Texas Dallas with major in interdisciplinary studies. She is a second-grade teacher at Indian Creek Elementary School in the Lewisville Independent School District. John studied communications operations at the United States Air Force and works as a Senior Engineer for Tail Light LLC. The couple will marry Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the Marie Gabrielle Restaurant and Gardens.
