Maisie Allison and John Bailey Owen met while they were being initiated for the Harvard Lampoon, the college humor magazine. Maisie was a member of the business board, and, John, the literary board. (History repeats itself: John’s parents also met while being initiated for the publication-cum-social organization.) Maisie and John dated for seven years, following Maisie’s graduation in 2009 and John’s in 2010. Maisie is a third-year law student at the University of Texas at Austin. She is currently a law clerk at the Federal Public Defender in Los Angeles, and next year she will be a litigation associate in the Los Angeles office of Kirkland & Ellis. John is a television writer in Los Angeles.
After creating a custom-designed ring with Maisie’s sister, Loddie, John proposed to Maisie while they were spending a weekend in Los Alamos, their favorite town nestled in Santa Barbara wine country. While the sun was setting after dinner, John surprised Maisie by popping the question. They celebrated quietly, savoring the evening together before they told their friends and family the next day.
The couple will be married on November 4, 2017 at the Nasher Sculpture Center.
