Why Dallas Brides No Longer Have a Receiving Line at Their Weddings

Introducing the D Weddings ABCs of Etiquette: Sure, you can flip through Emily Post’s bible of good manners, but what do Dallas brides, planners, and guests expect when it comes to local wedding etiquette? Dallas wedding experts tell us how to graciously navigate every wedding-day situation.

The receiving line tradition was created to ensure that the bride, groom, and family are able to personally greet every guest at the wedding, but you rarely see it at weddings in Dallas. Why? First, with large weddings, a receiving line for 200 or more guests creates a traffic jam. And second, there are many other ways to thank your guests for coming. Heather Rowley from Piazza in the Village explains that couples now tend to walk around during dinner to greet each table. She also suggests allowing the parents to leave pictures first so that they have time to chat with family and their guests.
