Selecting a skilled photographer who understands a couple’s vision and style is key to crafting tangible memories that you’ll cherish forever. Macy and Ethan want an elegant, moody style of photos, leaning towards candid moments instead of posed setups. We spoke with the Dream Day Giveaway photographer vendor, Stephanie Brazzle, on how to achieve that effortless look, her advice for a seamless day-of timeline, and how to naturally capture emotions on wedding day.

How would you describe your style of photography?

Fine art photography is what I specialize in. I would describe my look as classic and timeless, which hasn’t changed much in the last ten years. I also consider myself to be a family-centric photographer, ensuring that all of your favorite people are photographed. Giving my couples photos that they will not only enjoy a month after the wedding but that their families and future children will love is something I take pride in.

What does your onboarding process look like?

I like to begin the process by getting to know the couple over the phone or in person. I discuss the cost and the inclusions in the package during this exchange. Additionally, I want to understand how they envision their wedding day. Then, we’ll go over specifics and a shot list in some of the later meetings.

How should a couple go about creating a shot list? 

Avoid giving your photographer a shot list in its entirety. Instead, begin by talking about important moments and pictures that you definitely want to be taken. This could include the first kiss, the exchanging of rings, and any specific family or group photos you desire. From there, trust your photographer’s expertise and allow them to capture candid moments and unique perspectives that will truly tell the story of your special day.

Would you advise a couple to skip any particular photos?

In the end, it all comes down to what the couple wants. However, if a couple wants to maximize their time, I recommend skipping the robe shots with bridesmaids. Don’t get me wrong, these photos are lovely, but they take more time than you might think. Consider taking more candid getting ready photos instead. You’re still capturing those memories while remaining relaxed and present.

Do you have any suggestions for achieving a smooth day-of timeline?

Plan for some cushion in the timeline rather than trying to rush the day. Allowing for extra time between events accounts for potential delays or unexpected circumstances. I also advise my couples to make sure that everything is prepared for the photo shoot. Have a box that contains your invitation suite and rings, and  steam and hang any dresses.

Do you advise couples to book a second shooter? 

Yes, get a second shooter! It is a must! I often feel that the groom is shortchanged when it comes to photography and having a second shooter can help to balance out the number of photos that both individuals have taken.

Do you have any advice for couples on wedding day?

Have fun and savor the day. Don’t obsess over perfect poses or shots. Focus on creating lasting memories; the best photographs are taken when the couple is having a good time.
