Some of the best storybook romances begin when other people are preparing to say “I do.” Take Molly Lacey. She experienced a rom-com-esque meet-cute when she took her seat next to Isaac Latterell at a friend’s rehearsal dinner. “I was the maid of honor, so I had a lot going on, and Isaac was immediately so sweet and supportive,” says Molly. “We started talking, and we haven’t stopped since.”
At first, the conversations happened long-distance. Isaac was in Sioux Falls, serving as a member of the South Dakota House of Representatives; Molly lived and worked in Dallas. But soon enough, the state congressman began booking flights to DFW for IRL chats. The couple grew closer, and almost a year later, Isaac surprised Molly with a proposal at Dallas Baptist University. “He proposed with a really thoughtful letter in front of the beautiful cross that overlooks the city’s skyline,” she says.
From there, it was Engaged Events owner and creative director Whitney Bailey’s turn to put pen to paper to make Molly’s dream of getting married at her childhood home a reality. She quickly recruited Nathan Johnson of GRO Designs, who loved the vibes of the Lacey family’s home from the jump. “The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by stunning artwork and an atmosphere that feels so warm and welcoming,” he remembers.
Nathan and Whitney joined forces to channel that energy and elegance into a backyard affair packed with personal touches like de Gournay wallpaper–inspired panels and linens, fountains filled with florals, an oyster station, a message-in-a-bottle experience, a multicourse dinner complete with sommeliers, and even some of Molly’s needlework. “This was the house where her parents brought her home from the hospital,” says Whitney. “That made it such a great experience.”

Because the bride was worried about guests having less-than-stellar views of the ceremony, Nathan created an in-the-round arrangement to ensure that there wasn’t a bad seat in the house.

Molly got ready for the day with something borrowed—pearls from her mother’s wedding dress, which she placed on the comb of her veil—and something new—cuffs inspired by her mother’s wedding dress. Her something blue was a pair of Loeffler Randall shoes.

The couple used a cake knife that belonged to Isaac’s mom to cut their six-tiered confection. They also adorned the cake with a Lladró figurine that Molly’s parents had used on their own wedding day.
