A Day-Of Wedding Content Creator, Explained

In the age of TikTok, Instagram, and short-form content, many brides feel the need to post glamorously styled shots the day after their wedding, instead of waiting the usual six to eight months for their professional photos to be returned. And so, the wedding content creator was born. A wedding content creator is someone influencer-level versed in all things social media who follows you around on your big day to capture reel-worthy pictures and videos.

We spoke with professional wedding content creator Kelly Redmond on what exactly her job entails, why brides should consider adding this on to their photography package, and more.

Just last year, Kelly Redmond embarked on a new journey as a wedding content creator, crafting captivating videos and reels that engage and inspire her couples, bringing her unique perspective to the digital realm of weddings and events. From a young age, Redmond knew she wanted to work in the wedding industry, and, for close to six years, she worked alongside the Celebrate Dallas team, where she designed and planned weddings in the DFW area, showcasing her keen eye for detail and talent for creating unforgettable events. “I thought for a while that I wanted to be a wedding planner because there weren’t a lot of different jobs in the industry that were sustainable and that I could make a living off of,” she says. “Then Instagram changed its algorithm.”

In 2022, the app shifted from its original start as photo-sharing platform to focus on video and short-form content. Recognizing the growing importance of visual content in the wedding and event industries, while leveraging her planning and design expertise, Kelly saw a chance to provide instant access to wedding photos and videos.

Having already been collecting behind-the-scenes moments for the Celebrate Dallas couples, Kelly made the difficult decision to leave and devote herself to content creation full-time. “There was some self-doubt when I started,” she says. “But I had to remind myself that it takes time and the right couples were going to love it.” Her content quickly gained attention as couples discovered her ability to capture the essence of their day in a visually stunning way. Her videos and reels not only showcase the highlights of a wedding but also incorporate personal touches and heartfelt moments that resonate with her clients and their families. “I am trying to provide my couples with a guest’s point of view from their day and do my best to capture all of the details,” she says. “Some of my favorite moments come when people aren’t paying attention to me.”

These unguarded moments often reveal the genuine emotions and connections between loved ones, creating a more intimate and heartfelt narrative of this special day. Kelly believes that these candid shots truly capture the feel of the couple’s day, allowing them to relive those cherished memories for years to come.

While social content creators are hired to take photos and videos of your big day, Kelly says it’s important to understand that they aren’t here to replace traditional photographers and videographers. “I feel like I am here to add to the day and to collaborate [with the photography team] to create something magical,” she emphasizes. By working closely with the other wedding professionals, day-of content creators ensure that every precious moment is caught from multiple angles and perspectives. Their goal is to enhance the overall wedding experience by offering a different artistic vision that adds depth and variety to the final collection of memories. With their unique approach, they strive to create truly unforgettable and detailed documentation of the couple’s special day.

Kelly also notes that this service is truly dependent on how extravagant a couple wants to be on their wedding day. For couples with a larger budget or social media presence, hiring a day-of content creator makes sense. Ultimately, it’s about finding the right balance that suits each couple’s preferences and budget. Kelly advises couples to have a general vision for hiring a wedding content creator, as not all creators are the same. Research and find someone who understands your expectations and follows the flow of the day to capture those authentic moments, and you’ll be set with all the Instagram-worthy content your heart could desire.
