Sarah Baker & Swayze Smartt
July 17, 2021
When Swayze Smartt popped the question to Sarah Baker, she was in the midst of a forensic psychiatry fellowship out of state, which meant it was up to the groom to set the planning of their wedding into motion. Luckily, he was more than apt. Unluckily, the couple aimed to get married in the spring of 2020, right as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. Sarah and Swayze exchanged vows in a July ceremony attended by a cherished few family members then opted for a flower-filled reception at the Cliff House the following summer. “It felt like a nice end to this horrible pandemic,” Sarah says. “[The hard times] just made the reception that much sweeter.”
Even though their special day may not have transpired exactly as they’d planned, Sarah and Swayze’s dual celebrations made for beautiful memories. Planner Whitney Bailey of Engaged Events says, “We truly felt like the end result was exactly what Sarah and Swayze envisioned.”
“Sarah shared with me her inspirational photos of wildflower fields, long farm tables, and a dessert table,” remembers Whitney. Adds Sarah: “I wanted it to be bright and beautiful to feel like a celebration of being able to get together at the end of so much isolation.”
