Summer Spray: Amid the traditional invitation suite, the bride chose softer florals for the ceremony. She wanted the color scheme to match the location and the season. “We knew we wanted to get married in spring or summer,” Carole Anne says. “But we had to wait for the snow to run off.”

Something Old and Blue: A ribbon on the bride’s bouquet was actually fabric from her mom’s wedding dress. The embroidery featured Carole Anne’s new name and wedding date.

A Girl’s Best Friends: The bride chose a soft, grey-blue for her bridesmaids that was reminiscent of the invitation suite. “Up on the mountains, it was breezy—that was the idea behind the ribbons on the florals, too,” Carole Anne says. “Everything blew in the wind.” Harper, the bride’s English cream golden retriever, served as the ring bearer.

I Do, With a View: “Our faith is very important to us, so our ceremony was where we had the most fun and emphasis,” says Carole Anne. The couple took communion together after exchanging vows in front of a structural altarpiece that featured florals by Bows + Arrows.

Gather Round: The couple opted for food stations rather than a formal seated dinner. “We still wanted to have a family feel of sitting down at a big table and eating with everyone,” Carole Anne says. The layout of the reception featured both long and round tables, with bright floral centerpieces.

Seasonal Sips: The signature drink, a Mayers Mule, featured an Aspen tree–print paper straw. “It was just a time for our guests to take in the view; the sun was just starting to set,” Carole Anne recalls of cocktail hour.

Tiers of Joy: The couple chose a traditional vanilla bride’s cake and chocolate groom’s cake, but as for the design, Carole Anne was inspired by clean lines with simple touches. “I really wanted to bring the florals into the cake, to have that touch that ties everything together,” she says.

Star Gazers: A telescope added a homey touch among the lounge pieces for guests to view the stars.

Rocky Mountain High: The couple chose more masculine outdoor lounge furniture and more feminine pieces inside the tent to represent the joining of two personalities. Fire pits were lit as the evening got cooler, so guests could grab a drink and enjoy the view.

Dancing on Air: The couple chose Colorado, a place close to their hearts, for their wedding. The location, Longspar White Tip Ranch, is owned by the bride’s parents. “On top of it being special, it’s a family place,” Carole Anne says. “[We thought] it would be really cool to get married here and come back with our kids years later.”

Truck Stop: The couple knew they wanted to feature the truck that featured prominently in their engagement. A “Just Married” banner and some greenery from the reception adorned the back, and sparklers made for a picture-perfect moment.

Carole Anne Nelson & Keaton Mayers
July 10, 2021
For a couple who loves tradition, Carole Anne Nelson and Keaton Mayers met in a modern way—online. “I didn’t want to tell my kids we met on a dating app,” Carole Anne laughs. “But [a friend] encouraged me, so I made a profile, and Keaton was the only one I matched with.” After a year of dating, Keaton took Carole Anne for a drive around her family’s ranch.
When Keaton set up a tripod to take a photo, Carole Anne had no idea he was actually catching their engagement on camera. Keaton got down on one knee before Carole Anne’s dad’s orange Chevy truck, which the couple would use as their post-reception send-off just a few months later.
