Am I required to ask my fiancé’s sister to be my bridesmaid?

The short answer is no! Appointing people to various posts who simply aren’t close to you on this momentous day isn’t necessary. Not with standing, in-laws are part of the deal going forward, and this can certainly affect how future relationships shake out. Make the choice you feel good about. You certainly aren’t obligated to ask someone you aren’t close with to stand by your side and to attend intimate parties where they will be the odd duck. It might be time to get to know them afterward. If that’s the case, make them feel included in other get-togethers of the wedding-planning and celebrating process.
