The Couple
Chanel and Colby were digitally struck by love’s sweet arrow. The two met on the dating app, OkCupid, and spent weeks talking before arranging a first date. Colby already knew Chanel would be the one: their carefully curated date involved all of Chanel’s favorite things, the Dallas Mavericks and mambo taxis at Mi Cocina. While the lunchtime arrangements were perfect, it was their seemingly endless list of similarities that kept the spark going. Neither wanted the date to end, and needless to say, it didn’t.
Chanel attended St. Edwards University where she majored in communications, specializing in advertising and public relations. She currently works as a senior administrative assistant at PGIM Real Estate Finance. Colby received his bachelor’s degree in hospitality management from Pennsylvania State University. He currently works at Merrill Lynch in wealth management.
The Proposal
For the proposal, Colby surprised Chanel with a Valentine’s Day trip to New York City. They went ice skating at the Rockefeller Center, a first for both of them. Following a short hot chocolate and cookie break in the VIP Igloo, the two returned to the ice. However this time, Colby was noticeably quieter. He suddenly stopped skating, and began telling Chanel how much he loved her. He got down on one knee, pulled out the ring of Chanel’s dreams, and asked her to marry him. The other ice skaters at the rink applauded and cheered as Chanel said yes. The couple then made their way to Bouley to celebrate their engagement. Chanel couldn’t have been happier with the trip. “We came to NYC as boyfriend and girlfriend, but left as fiancé and fiancée,” Chanel says.
The Wedding
The two will exchange vows on August 12, 2017, at the Perkins Chapel at SMU, followed by a reception at The Adolphus Hotel.
