Before Texas native Haley Hauk left her home state for the University of Arkansas, her mom made her promise one thing: that she wouldn’t marry an Arkansas boy and stay there for good. Haley made good on her promise until she met Connor Roberts. Although Connor was two years her senior, they knew about each other through mutual friends and even followed each other on social media. Eventually, knowing that they were likely not going to cross paths at school, Connor messaged Haley on Facebook. The next morning, they had coffee before Haley’s 8am class. The rest is history.
Cheer has always played a big part in Haley’s life. On Saturday, November 4, 2017–while she was on the football field cheering on the Razorbacks–Connor was in the stands, preparing for one of the biggest moments of their lives. For Haley, this was just another homecoming game. For Connor, this was the moment he would see eight months of planning through and finally propose.
The hardest part was done. Connor has already rallied over 100 of Haley’s closest friends and family members into town to surprise her. Haley is still shocked that they had all been in Fayatteville the night before the game without her knowing.
The Razorbacks narrowly won the game by one point. Following the win, the spirit squad assembled, as usual, to take a victory shot.
While the spirit squad (72 cheerleaders, dancers, and mascots) had their backs to the football field, Connor began to make his approach. Meanwhile, all of Haley’s friends and family were in the stands watching–Haley just couldn’t see them.
After they took the picture, Haley came down from her stunt partner’s shoulders and turned around. She immediately knew what was happening. Tears flooded down her face as she watched Connor get down on one knee. “The joy hasn’t stopped,” says Haley. “He is truly a dream, and that day was a dream.” The engagement was followed by a surprise celebration with all of their people.
Haley and Connor will be married at Union Station in December of 2018.
