State Fare: The invitation crest included poppies, the state flower of Sara’s native California, and bluebonnets, a nod to Randy’s Texas roots. Poppies were utilized in the day-of florals, with blue linens representing bluebonnets.

Derby Day: The wedding took place on the same day as the Kentucky Derby, prompting Sara and Randy to serve mint juleps as one of their signature cocktails.

Let Them Eat Cake: KC remembers the cake cutting most fondly, as Sara surprised her groom by throwing cake in his face. “It was just such a Sara-and-Randy moment,” she says. “They have such a fun-loving, charming vibe.”

Orange You Glad: In addition to sunset-colored flowers, Randy’s boutonniere bore a kumquat in honor of his love of citrus. Laughs planner KC Cloud, “By the time they got to the reception, he had eaten it.”

Fun and Games: Custom cornhole games were available for guests to enjoy at the outdoor reception. “The best part about the venue was that it’s open land,” says Sara. “[The kids] were all playing hide and seek.”

Timeless A-Peel: Clementines made for perfect place cards—and not only because they fit in with the floral color scheme. “[Randy] eats probably a one-pound bag of clementines every day,” laughs Sara. It turns out the guests enjoyed them as well; by the end of the night, KC says the tables were laden with citrus peels.

Defying Gravity: KC loved how the look was brought to life by Adri Smith of Moss Floral Design, who constructed a 24-foot frame and suspended it from the tent. “We wanted to create something unique,” says KC, “but still have that classic air.”

Sara Bond and Randy Griffin were initially indifferent to each other until a persistent coworker set them up. Aside from physical attraction (“He’s six-foot-four,” Sara laughs), one of the things that drew Sara to Randy was the fact that he’s from a big family like herself. “It’s really easy to feel homesick when you’re away from home,” says Sara, a California native. “His family was so similar to mine—I just felt very comfortable with them.” When the time came for an engagement, Randy intended to take Sara out to his family ranch, where the bluebonnets were blooming, and pop the question. But when the temperature unexpectedly dropped in true Texas fashion, Randy ended up proposing in their living room, just the two of them. Fortunately, their plans for a Southern-inspired wedding celebration went off without a hitch, and on May 4, 2019, the couple happily said, “I do.”
