Jessica Carrier and Tyler Riola Say “I Do” in a Sweet Ceremony That Complements the Natural Beauty of the Adolphus

A swift right swipe was all it took for Jessica Carrier and Tyler Riola to find each other. After connecting on Bumble on a Thursday, the pair had a four-hour brunch together on Sunday. Afterward, both of them immediately called their moms to let them know they had “found the one.”

Three hundred and sixty-three days later, Tyler proposed early one Saturday morning at the 360 overlook of Austin’s Pennybacker Bridge. He had duped Jessica into thinking they were rising early to take sunrise photos with their Shih Tzu, Chandler Bing, but instead got down on one knee.

Jessica and Tyler landed on The Adolphus Hotel’s 19th Floor Ballroom to host their ceremony and reception on May 25, 2019. After watching Kate Middleton wed Prince William in 2011, Jessica had always dreamt of an all-white wedding, which also happened to fit into her parent’s timeless taste and Tyler’s affinity for minimalism. “I wanted everything to look clean and simple,” Jessica says. “Not too much and not too little.”

Although Jessica’s parents were originally against doing a “flip” between the ceremony and reception, the space proved worth the extra labor. Jessica and Tyler worked with Pop Parties to complement the ballroom with gold chiavari chairs, ivory shantung linen, and white peonies, hydrangeas, roses, and ranunculus. They also added gold touches in the flatware and lanterns, repurposed from the ceremony. “My reception was the most beautiful space I’d ever seen,” Jessica says. “Shouldn’t every bride feel that way?”

And while she fondly recalls dancing ’til the last minutes of her reception, the sweetest moments of Jessica’s day came before she even walked down the aisle. “My mom, dad, and I are very close, so the first look with my dad was so special. We were both really emotional, and there’s this amazing photo Marissa took of him holding my veil that I cherish so much,” Jessica says. “My husband was totally against doing the first look for a while, but I am so glad we did it. I think once Marissa [of ML Photo & Film] and I explained the benefits, he got the idea. It was the best part of the day. Having that time together alone to soak in the moment of us seeing each other for the first time on our wedding day was perfect. I really can’t imagine not having that moment.”
