High school sweethearts Kristin Cywinski and Joseph Micci first got to know each other on a double date—that they were on with other people. On October 20, 2018—eight years of dating and one proposal later—they welcomed guests to their elegant hillside wedding on Austin’s Lake Travis, followed by an intimate dinner reception and fireworks show to kick off the dance party. “Of course, it went by too fast,” says the bride. “But Joey and I made sure to make our rounds early and quickly to our guests so we could enjoy the night. We remembered to step away from the crowd to watch everyone dancing and partying. It was a cool moment for us to enjoy.” The threat of rain meant the green space that was originally planned as a dramatic aisle instead became the setting for a gorgeous, tented reception concepted by planner Lottie Fowler of Grit & Gold Event Co. Romantic lighting, communal tables draped with gauzy runners, and vintage bouquets created the ultimate garden fairy tale.
Flawless Forecast
Proof that a great Plan B can make rain on your wedding day a nonissue. The threat of inclement weather inspired a last-minute setup switch and the addition of romantic, narrow tents—along what was originally slated to be the dramatic, grassy aisle—that were accented with stylish chandeliers.
Serve Yourself
Each napkin was simply folded and tied with a gray velvet ribbon. “We love the way the tables were formal yet still approachable and centered around one big family,” says Fowler.
Isn’t It Romantic
Kristin and Joey’s invitations by Pretty Post Paper Co. utilize the same romantic tones as the florals by Austin-based Clementine Botanical Art.
All in the Details
Kristin’s dress by Australian designer Jane Hill featured a low back with a unique crisscross hatch pattern. “We added an extra foot of train to the end of the dress for a more dramatic effect,” she says. The dress and dramatic veil were lined with horsetail at the edges for a waterfall look as she walked down the aisle.
Throwing Shade
The fondant on this vanilla and buttercream dairy- and gluten-free cake was matched to a handmade silk ribbon from Tono & Co. for a monochromatic, modern feel.
Floral Footing
“Bookend” floral arrangements at the base of the tables added a touch of garden romance. “Keeping them at the ground was not only a beautiful welcome for the guests but kept the floral from being too intrusive during dining,” says planner Lottie Fowler of Grit & Gold Event Co.
A Tisket, A Tasket
The “Bury the Bourbon and get Hitched” basket was a wedding-day gift from the Grit & Gold team to Kristin and Joey.
