October 10, 2020
After four years of long-distance dating, John Durbin decided no distance was too great to traverse to ask Lynn Darden for her hand in marriage. While on a family trip to Europe, Lynn answered a knock on her hotel door to find her college sweetheart on bended knee. The balance of the trip—which included a visit to the Prado Museum in Madrid, where they viewed the works of the Dutch masters—would prove inspirational for the non-traditional event Lynn and her mom dreamed up. When COVID struck, Lynn made the swift decision to downsize, remaining steadfast as mandates fluctuated to avoid unnecessary stress. “Selfishly I always wanted a small wedding,” says the bride, who on October 10, 2020, said “I do” to her groom in front of 100 of their nearest and dearest. Despite the unpredictability of 2020, on that day, the new Mrs. Durbin felt nothing but tranquility: “After so many ups and downs throughout the year, the ceremony just felt calm and peaceful.”
