On June 3, 2017, a jet-black Ellsworth Kelly sculpture in the DMA’s garden served as a modern backdrop for the bride’s avant-garde ensemble—instead of a traditional gown, she donned a custom pantsuit and detachable cape by Mackenzie Brittingham. Melina Schoppa and Mattia Flabiano—who met on a blind date—wanted the museum’s art collection to stand out, choosing a neutral palette of green-and-white florals and cream bridesmaid dresses. The well-traveled duo gave a tasty nod to Texas by serving cult favorite Whataburger as the late-night fare.
