Mutual friends introduced Meredith Land and Xan Moore while they were in college. After graduation, he lived in New York, London, and Madrid; she pursued a career as a television reporter. She landed a job at NBC Channel 5 in Dallas and at about the same time Xan returned to the States, but her biggest break came with Xan proposed on the beach in Costa Rica. Wearing her mother’s wedding gown and emeralds that Xan’s mother had worn on her engagement ring for 30 years, the pair married August 27, 2005, in Meredith’s hometown of Charleston, S.C.
