Advice & Planning

Planning a “Dream Day,” Week Ten: Setting the Scene

When touring your potential wedding venue, the space might be empty, making it hard for some couples to envision the final look of their big day. Sure, you can probably imagine some tables and chairs scattered about, but that’s only the half of it. From big-ticket items like lounge furniture, bar facades, and stage wraps down to details like china, glassware, and linens, the pieces you choose can completely transform the look, feel, and layout of your venue. Along with their planner, Jess Wegner, Macy and Ethan recently met with Sarah Mendez, event specialist at Top Tier Event Rentals, to select rentals for their Mason celebration, which is taking place next month. Sarah fills us in on their meeting, as well as what couples can expect at their own selection meeting and the hottest trends in rentals right now.

How did the meeting with Macy and Ethan go? What can you share in terms of what look/feel they’re going for, and how the rentals they selected will enhance that?

We met with Macy and Ethan today and it went very well! They are so kind and gracious—the perfect couple for this fantastic giveaway. I won’t give away too much, but their wedding has earthy green tones and pops of gold. A bit modern while remaining classic and romantic. The bars and specialty glassware they have selected is going to carry the aesthetic throughout The Mason perfectly.

How should couples prepare for their meeting with you? What should they expect out of that meeting?

Prepare to have a great time when you arrive for your appointment. We truly want to exceed your expectations and give you the best experience possible while choosing design details for your big day! Our design center is built in a way that allows you to put your hands on our actual rental items. As a visual person myself, I understand the importance of being able to touch and see everything myself, rather than through photos online—it makes a huge difference! We often start with our linen wall, which has all our in-house linens available, then tabletop options are built out, and then we finish with a specialty chair! We like to have fun and ensure this is enjoyable for all our clients as well.

How important is having a wedding designer to making sure you’re utilizing rental items to their best use and fullest potential?

Having a wedding planner is such an important aspect of planning your special day. It can quickly become overwhelming when you get started with the planning process. Planners’ jobs are meant to keep the wedding planning fun for you—they can show you the world! A planner has most likely already developed a valuable relationship with your vendor and knows the right questions to ask.

What’s something about rentals that you think most couples don’t realize or consider before planning their wedding?

Truthfully, we hear “I’ve never considered how much having rentals makes a difference!” They can elevate your event to a whole new level—oh and the photos are killer!

What are some of the biggest trends in rentals that you’re seeing today?

There are a few good ones right now—all black tabletops with black chairs, lots of green (which we love), mixed metals, bright colors, and a good textured or patterned linen! We love a good velvet linen and that is really popular right now.
