Pearls of Wisdom: The bride’s shoes included lace, sparkles, and pearl details. “Both of us are obsessed with that vintage, lounge bar feeling, and the pearls were an extension of that,” Catherine says.

Set the Mood: Catherine chose dark and moody tones rather that something more traditional for her bridesmaids’ pajamas to reflect the overall aesthetic of the wedding. “I love dark colors—I think it’s more intimate like that,” she explains.

Shoulder to Shoulder: The dress designer’s warehouse is in Ukraine, which has since been shut down due to impending conflict. “It makes me love it even more that they’re supporting Ukrainian workers,” Catherine says. Catherine had the sleeve modified to create a more symmetric line, and she also removed the train so that the skirt was the same length from all sides.

Feels Like Home: Catherine sent Jess inspiration mood boards, though most of the photos were of interiors rather than weddings. Having such clear direction made it easy to hone in on aesthetic choices, including black velvet tablecloths, geometric napkins, copper flatware, and orchids.

Strokes of Genius: "I really wanted it to be this super dark, Old Hollywood vibe,” the bride says of their reception. “I wanted for our guests to feel like they walked into this warm and comforting place.” Jess enlisted Branching Out Events to execute Catherine's intentional vision for reception florals. “I wanted it to look like art,” Catherine says.
14 Karat: With all the extravagant detail in so many places, Catherine opted for an unadorned cake design. “I just wanted it to be super simple,” she says. “I grew up eating carrot cake, so that’s what we had.”

Marry Go Round: It was planner Jess Wegner’s idea to do the ceremony “in the round,” meaning that the guests and decor were centered around the couple, rather than having one long aisle. “When you walk in, it feels like you’re in this cocoon, or this bubble of love,” Jess says. Additionally, the bride much preferred candlelight to florals inside the ceremony location, which illuminated the space to create an atmospheric glow.

Dressed to Dance: Catherine donned a dress by Nookie, an Australian retailer, for the reception. The couple shared a private last dance to “Lovers Rock” by Sade. “She’s my all-time favorite, and my dad was obsessed with her,” Catherine recalls of her late father. “It was super personal and felt like part of my dad was there with us, listening to her alone together.”

Sage Advice: Catherine laughs that the couple didn’t spend much time together once they made it to the reception, which was held in the Adolphus' French Room. “He was on the dance floor, and I was visiting with people,” she says. “We tried to slow down—that was the advice we had been given by people."

Rolls With It: Catherine and Jack chose a classic Rolls Royce for their getaway car. “I wanted it to feel like people stepped back in time, whatever decade you were connecting with,” she says.

All Aglow: The guests were given monogrammed matchboxes with the couple’s now-shared last initial to light the sparklers. “It was misting outside, so it was just magical,” Catherine recalls.

Catherine Edmonson & Jack Hamilton
January 8, 2022
Catherine Edmonson and Jack Hamilton met over a game of ping pong at a bar in Washington, D.C. for a friend’s birthday party. But for Catherine, it felt as though they’d known each other much longer. “We hit it off and had this weird, spiritual connection, like when you meet somebody that you’ve met in a past life,” she says. “I just took a deep breath and was like, ‘Good to see you again.’ ” Though she was dating someone else at the time, she gave Jack her number but blocked his out of guilt. Three months later and newly single, Catherine unblocked his number, and the rest is history. After eight months of dating, the couple got engaged in Florida at Jack’s parents’ house, where her own parents were waiting with balloons and flowers in the backyard. “We just vibe with each other,” she says. “We can sit in a room and be silent and have an entire conversation.”
