Behind The Lens
Choosing Ama by Aisha’s Aisha Khan as a wedding photographer, say Anita Moti and Reshu Saini, was an integral part in their wedding-planning process. The Houston-based photographer not only shot each of the couple’s six wedding events, nailing the different aesthetics each time, she also realized the couple’s dream engagement shoot. “I was looking for a photographer with a portfolio that aligned with my vision and wasn’t afraid to experiment,” says the bride. “This photo was an awkward pose, and we couldn’t stop laughing while she was setting up the shot. Aisha kept saying, ‘I know it’s weird—just trust me!’ We did, and it turned out very cool.”
Sculptural Sweets
There’s a reason wedding bakers are referred to as “cake artists.” Those like Georgina Martinez (pictured above) and Samantha Miller build their confections with the same creativity a painter would a canvas. “An artful touch is all about thoughtful, unexpected elements—rich color palettes, intriguing textures, and unique compositions—that captivate guests and make them see cake in a new light,” says Samantha. Georgina takes a more arcane approach to her designs, saying, “My technique mostly comes from daydreaming, then researching. Take an aura photo with your partner and airbrush those colors on your cake.”
Take the Plate
For foodie brides, this deconstructed ahi tuna nacho hors d’oeuvre by Heart to Heart Catering—a dish inspired by owner Tom Elkhay’s own Hawaiian honeymoon—is the ideal artisanal touch to add to your day-of menu. Regardless of what’s on the menu, Tom advises using fresh ingredients and thoughtfully chosen garnishes to elevate any plate. “I love adding edible flowers, fresh herbs, and an assortment of unique fruits and baby vegetables,” he says. “They add the perfect amount of color, texture, and a touch of heart that enhance the flavor and visual appeal of each dish.”
Flower Power
Floral arranging is an art form in itself. But rose-filled bouquets and greenery-heavy table centerpieces can start to feel a little formulaic. For something outside the norm, take a cue from this sculptural arrangement—featuring plumosa ferns, bells of Ireland, proteas from Holland, and a custom-built mirror—by Patricio Rivera of Twelve Thirty Four. “My inspiration for this arrangement was the one-of-a-kind bride, someone who wants to feel self-reflected by the work,” he says. “There is so much intention in each choice, like using yellow calla lilies for a sign of light.”
Bring on the Bling
