This Wedding was True to the Couple: Astrology, Touches of Family, a Unique Gown, and More

Murphy Burns & Hunter Hein
June 1, 2024

When Hunter Hein asked Murphy Burns on a dinner date after meeting her through mutual friends at Katy Trail Ice House, the two immediately clicked. “We both felt that spark,” she says. “We went to dinner that night, and we’ve been inseparable ever since.” Murphy, who has a deep interest in astrology and moon phases, let that passion dictate the decor for their destination wedding in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The affair was inspired by the different phases of night: The cocktail hour featured tones of yellow as a tribute to the golden hour, dinner was designed with the vibrant colors of the sunset, and the after-party featured the night’s sky as the backdrop. “If you would have asked any guests, they would have said, ‘This wedding is so Murphy,’ ” she says, “which is exactly what I wanted.”

Putting Down Roots
Murphy and Hunter scouted this special spot on the Bishop’s Lodge grounds for the ceremony. “We wanted to get married with that tree in the background,” she explains. That tree became a symbol of the weekend as well. Guests were sent home with block prints of the tree made by a local artist.

To Each Their Own
Bridesmaids wore gowns of their choosing in cream, white, and beige tones. “I wanted everyone to be comfortable,” Murphy says. “They all looked fantastic together.” Each bridesmaid carried a different bouquet of wildflowers for a fun pop of color.

Horsing Around
Cowboys on horseback greeted guests as they entered the reception. “I really wanted that to be the grand entrance as people walked into the dinner,” Murphy says.

Dialed In
Menus were printed in the style of a sundial. “You’d spin the menu, and that would tell you the next course,” says Murphy. The menus also featured the guest’s intention picked by the bride, along with the description of the moon’s phase that evening.
