Family Ties: Mackenzie and her cousin Rose, age 7, share a special bond. Mackenzie was a flower girl at Rose’s mother’s wedding years ago, and Rose filled the role in this ceremony where they recreated a special family photo.

Tucked Away: Mackenzie’s Beccar Couture strapless sweetheart gown was adorned with a subtle modern floral design. A handkerchief made from Mackenzie’s baby bonnet was pinned into the gown.

Party of 12: What was slated to be a celebration for 170 turned out to be dinner for 12. “We’re so happy with our decision,” Tori says of their altered plans. “There’s a lot of silver linings.”

Something Borrowed: Mackenzie’s garden bouquet featured a family heirloom brooch—her “something borrowed” from her maternal great grandmother and grandmother—to honor the family’s tradition of passing a piece of jewelry along from a happily married family member or friend.

Mackenzie Voorhies and Reid Stewart
August 15, 2020
After high-school sweethearts—turned collegiate long-distance lovers—Mackenzie Voorhies and Reid Stewart graduated from UT Austin and Texas Tech University, respectively, they decided to see their love story through with a “Yes!” and an “I do.” The couple went classic for a ceremony site—choosing Perkins Chapel at SMU for its timeless, neutral feel—but were romanced by the “glam” and “sparkle” of The Adolphus Hotel for a reception venue. On the big day, Mackenzie and her maids carried bouquets of roses, hydrangeas, and lisianthus, which were also used at the reception in towering arrangements and etched gold vases. After months of touch-and-go quarantine regulations, the newly minted Mr. and Mrs. were more than ready to celebrate with family and friends who had watched their relationship grow through the years. A sentimental ceremony was followed by a joyous party, where they danced all night to a 10-piece band. “The buzz in the air all day was so exciting,” Mackenzie recalls. “It felt like pure happiness.” —Jennifer Hayes
