Sweet Surprises: Meagan and Zack have always been animal lovers. Here, they get a photo op with the alpacas that live on the grounds of Camp Lucy.

Stunning Simplicity: When Meagan first saw the arch at Camp Lucy, she and Zack agreed they would keep the ceremony site simple so as not to take away from the natural beauty. They added a runner that incorporated their terra cotta color palette and let the stunning Texas hill country be the backdrop.

Friends of the Bride: Meagan opted out of a traditional bridal party, but had some of her closest friends choose their own dresses based on a color palette and took photos together to celebrate their friendship.

Fateful Finds: Wanting something that felt both bohemian and formal, Meagan went into Stanley Korshak Bridal three months from her wedding after already buying a dress online that she wasn’t completely in love with. Zack got the deciding vote, and chose the bell-sleeved dress she wore for the occasion.

International Flair: Meagan surprised guests with a Scottish bagpiper—a nod to Zack’s childhood attending The Scots College in Australia.

Color Coordination: The couple held their reception at Tillie’s, a restaurant on property. The place was already bursting with colors and textures, which can make it difficult to layer in additional decor. Planner Lottie Fowler’s best tip? “Keep everything complementary.”

Setting a Tone: Meagan and Zack wanted to create a “dinner party vibe” for their 50 guests. One of the keys in achieving this was, of course, the food—and Camp Lucy’s on-site restaurant, Tillie’s, delivered. “We still have guests tell us that it’s not just the best wedding meal they’ve ever had, but the best meal they’ve ever had,” Meagan says.

Meagan Bechtel and Zack Starr
October 28, 2019
Meagan Bechtel wanted her wedding to Zack Starr to feel more like an “incredible dinner party” than a wedding. The adventurous couple met online, and as Meagan remembers, “It was very clear from our first date that we were meant to be together.” As a hair and makeup artist in Dallas-Fort Worth, Meagan has seen a beautiful wedding at almost every venue in town. Wanting something different for her own celebration, she and Zack decided to venture south for their big day: to Camp Lucy in Dripping Springs. She opted out of a traditional wedding party, bouquet toss, and cake cutting in favor of less traditional elements, like Meagan’s father marrying the couple rather than walking the bride down the aisle and a blessing ceremony of the couple’s rings. The wedding weekend also included bouldering and a tailgate as pre-wedding festivities. Looking back, Meagan says that, for them, bucking tradition paid off. “The wedding that we had was exactly right for us.”
