The One: “I looked online at probably 800 venues in Texas, and I finally found the Hillside Estate,” says Mackenzie. The only problem? It wasn’t built yet. “But as soon as we met the owner, Brittney, and saw the windows in the chapel, we were sold. It was the first and only venue that we physically toured.”

So Inviting: “Since floral and color were a huge part of the wedding, I wanted that to show in the invites,” says planner Alexa Kay of Alexa Kay Events.

Playing Favorites: While gown shopping at Bridal Boutique of Lewisville, Mackenzie’s stylist noted that nine of the 10 gowns she pulled were by Pronovias. In the end, she chose an off-the-shoulder column gown by the Spanish designer.

Just Desserts: The cake, which was accented with piped flowers, was made up of flavors including white-chocolate raspberry and Irish cream.

Funky Florals: Florist Jesse Camargo of Flo.ReaL introduced Mackenzie to ikebana—the Japanese art of flower arranging that focuses on lines and color. “We decided to keep it minimal so the flowers could be appreciated,” says Jesse. The head table had both ikebana arrangements and bud vases running down the center. “It basically looked like a little flower dance down the table,” he remembers.

Mackenzie Grumbine & Evan Pettit
May 23, 2021
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Indeed, after seeing a photo of Mackenzie Grumbine on a pal’s phone, Evan Pettit asked the mutual friend to set them up. The pair dated long distance through college and eventually got engaged in Arches National Park.
Having spent years as a bridal model, Mackenzie was ready to play the part for real—but choosing the right vendors to bring her unconventional sense of style to life was critical. Of her Parisian-inspired venue choice and unique floral color palette, she says, “I wanted to feel like I was frolicking through a French garden during springtime.”
