Macy Truelove & Ethan O’Neal
September 10, 2023
When Macy Truelove and her fiancé, Ethan O’Neal, heard about D Weddings’ Dream Day Giveaway—in which one lucky couple would win the wedding of their dreams in celebration of our 20th anniversary—they almost didn’t apply. “It’s like a running joke—I have the worst luck known to man,” Macy laughs.
But they decided to give it a shot. The Midlothian-born pair quickly won voters over with their easygoing natures and sweet love story, which dates back to eighth grade. After several rounds of voting, to their shock and surprise, they were selected as the winners. Overnight, their plans for a scaled-down, modest wedding went right out the window. “When we were paying for our own wedding, it was very simple,” Macy says, adding with a laugh, “My mom and I were going to do the flowers. We were really ballin’ on a budget.”
Fortunately, the all-star team of Dream Day vendors—spearheaded by planner Jess Wegner of Jess Wegner Events—knew how to amplify their ideas while still staying true to the couple.
Macy’s vision of timeless arrangements of baby’s breath was transformed by Blushington Blooms’ Sophie Cox and Mazzi Stevens into organic and airy displays of garnet roses, sweet peas, and ranunculus in a classic white and green palette.
Ethan, meanwhile, was focused on experience. “I wanted a really big party,” he says. Though budget constraints would’ve ordinarily necessitated a DJ, he was thrilled about having live entertainment from Emerald City Band’s EC All Stars. “The music is what everybody remembered,” he says. “It was like your own personal concert.”
After a whirlwind four-month planning process, on September 10, 2023, the couple said “I do” at The Mason Dallas in front of 175 of their nearest and dearest. Even up until the day of their wedding, the couple could hardly believe their luck. “We had never been to an event of this scale before in our entire lives, and this one was for us,” Macy says. “It was just a surreal experience.”
The Mason Dallas provided the perfect backdrop for the timeless vibe Macy and Ethan were after. “It doesn’t even need decorations, and then when you add everything, it’s just breathtaking,” says Macy, who changed into a “fun and flirty” dress for the dance portion of the evening. Meanwhile, her groom donned a custom shawl-lapel tux from Mister Tuxedo, which also made him a black velvet dinner jacket to wear following the ceremony.
Planner and designer Jess Wegner of Jess Wegner Events curated the varied tablescapes using linens from BBJ La Tavola. Jess proved invaluable to Macy and Ethan—not just in the planning stages but on the day of, too. “Things go wrong on wedding days—even Dream Days—and Jess was putting out fires so we could just enjoy the moment,” says Macy.
